How it works

Hydraulic separation: the primary and secondary circuits become independent, so the boiler or heat pump circulator and the circuit pumps do not affect each other.
Deaeration: the wider cross-section slows the flow and a technopolymer mesh releases micro-bubbles; they merge and are discharged through the float-type air vent at the top.
Dirt separation: impurities carried by the water hit the internal element, separate and collect in the lower chamber.
Magnetic particles: the magnetic ring holds ferrous particles in the collection zone; the dirt is emptied through the drain valve with hose connection.

How to choose

Size by total flow: the recommended maximum is 2.5 m³/h for 1", 4 for 1 1/4", 6 for 1 1/2" and 8.5 m³/h for 2".
In systems that also cool (heat pumps, fan coils) the supplied insulation reduces the need for extra anti-condensation lagging.

How to write it in a quote

Give code, size and flow on one line: "Caleffi 549507 SEP4 multifunction hydraulic separator 1 1/4", with air and dirt separator, magnetic, insulated, max. 4 m³/h". SEP4 replaces a separate low loss header, air separator and dirt separator, so do not list those items again.

FAQ

How is SEP4 different from a standard low loss header?

A standard low loss header only separates the circuits hydraulically. SEP4 also contains an air separator, a dirt separator and a magnetic ring in the same body, so no separate air and dirt separators are needed.

Which size do I need?

Take the largest flow on the primary or secondary side and choose the first size whose recommended maximum is above it: up to 2.5 m³/h 1", up to 4 m³/h 1 1/4", up to 6 m³/h 1 1/2", up to 8.5 m³/h 2".

Can it be used with chilled water?

Yes. It is supplied with a pre-formed shell that insulates for both hot and chilled water use. The temperature range is 0–100 °C.

How is the collected dirt removed?

Through the drain valve with hose connection at the bottom of the body. The magnetic ring keeps ferrous particles in that collection zone.
