Caleffi 5463 / 5466 DIRTMAG brass and flanged magnetic dirt separator

DIRTMAG 5463 and 5466 are metal-bodied magnetic dirt separators that remove dirt and ferrous particles down to 5 µm from system water. There are 19 models: threaded brass from 3/4" to 2" and flanged steel from DN 50 to DN 300.

Operating principle

Besides conventional dirt separation, a magnetic device collects ferrous particles. In the threaded 5463 the magnets sit in two housings in a ring outside the body; in the flanged 5466 they are placed in one or more removable pockets inside the body. The particles are held in the collection zone and cannot return to the system.

How to choose

Residential and small commercial systems with pipes up to 2": brass 5463; larger headers and mains: flanged 5466 from DN 50 to DN 300.
5463 comes insulated (546315–546319) or without insulation (546305–546309); use the insulated one on chilled water lines.
5466 DN 50–DN 150 is PN 16 flanged and insulated; DN 200–DN 300 is PN 10 flanged with a 1/2" female temperature sensor connection.
Flanged models need EN 1092-1 flat counter-flanges; state this in the quote.

How to write it in a quote

Example: "Caleffi 546316 DIRTMAG magnetic dirt separator 1", brass body, insulated, 10 bar, 0–110 °C". For flanged models always give DN and PN: "Caleffi 546680 DIRTMAG DN 80, PN 16 flanged, insulated", and add counter-flanges, gaskets and bolts as separate lines.

How does brass DIRTMAG differ from composite DIRTMAG?

Brass 5463 is rated for max. 10 bar and 0–110 °C, while the composite 5453 is for max. 3 bar and 0–90 °C. Choose the brass model for higher pressure or higher temperature systems.

Down to what particle size does it separate?

The series separates particles down to 5 µm. Ferrous particles are additionally captured by the magnets.

What pressure class are the flanged models?

DN 50 to DN 150 are PN 16 flanged, DN 200 to DN 300 are PN 10 flanged. All 5466 models have a max. working pressure of 10 bar and a temperature range of 0–100 °C.
