Caleffi 5231 / 5230 centralised thermostatic mixing valve
The 5231 and 5230 series are thermostatic mixing valves for centralised systems: they blend hot water from the cylinder with cold water and send water at a constant set temperature into the distribution line. There are 20 models from 1/2" to 2", including versions with check valves and compression ends.

How to choose
- Size by Kv against the draw-off flow and acceptable pressure drop; the connection size alone is not enough.
- Where hard water is a problem, the scale-resistant technopolymer sensor of 5231 helps; where only the internals should be swapped during maintenance, the replaceable cartridge of 5230 does.
- If inlet water can exceed 85 °C (e.g. solar or solid fuel cylinders), choose 5231, rated for 90 °C inlet.
- Models with inlet check valves prevent backflow: 523163/523173 in 5231, 523043–523073 in 5230; for copper lines 523052 (Ø 22) and 523062 (Ø 28).

What does a centralised thermostatic mixing valve do?
It blends hot water from the cylinder with cold water and supplies the distribution line at the set temperature. Even if the cylinder is kept hot, water to the taps stays at a constant temperature.
What is the difference between 5231 and 5230?
5231 has a dezincification-resistant alloy body and a scale-resistant technopolymer sensor and accepts inlet temperatures up to 90 °C. 5230 has a brass body, a replaceable cartridge and a max. inlet temperature of 85 °C. Both are rated for 14 bar max. working pressure.
How do I select by Kv?
Kv is the flow in m³/h through the valve at 1 bar pressure drop. From 1" upwards 5230 has the higher Kv; for 1" it is 5.5 for 5231 and 6.9 for 5230. Pick the smallest model whose Kv covers your peak flow at the allowed pressure drop.
